Winning the National Science Bowl: holding the first place trophy alongside with my

teammates; that was my dream as a budding high school freshman. Ever since my
team placed third at the 2012 National Science Bowl, my sole ambition was to return
to the contestNational Science Bowl as a high school student with _____
and______determined to bring home the gold. However, my dreams were blown
awayseemed out of reach when I learned that my high school did not have alacked
both a Science Bowl team, and and to form one, I would not only have to find an
advisor. but also form a new team and train aggressively for the contest.
Timid and dubious, I set about looking for a science teacher who would be willing to
help me out as a coach a new team through hours of afterschool training. As a
freshman, I only knew only a few science teachers, and naturally, I approached my c
my Chemistry teacher first. When I learned that he was busy with other commitments,
I was dispirited and unsuredidnt know how to proceed further. . Disappointed yetYet,
determined not to give up, I approached the head of the Biology department, only to
find that she was alsotoo, was busy with other commitments. After a couple more
negative answers, I was crestfallen and ready to give up. Nevertheless, I embraced the
small beacon of hope that I still had and approached the Forensics teacher. AlEven
though she didnt have the slightest clue about Science Bowl in general, impressed by
my perseverance, she agreed to help us. I had determination, she agreed to help us. I
tasted my first victory in high school.

Overcoming Upon entering high school, mmy hesitation to approach others posed a
seemingly insurmountable challenge; yet, I realized that my passion for Science Bowl
not only helped me overcome this hurdle but initial fear upon entering high school
was very difficult, yet I realized thalso taught me thee importance of asking for
help.approaching others through this experience. Although I am have yet to achieve
my goall of winningng the first place trophy at the National Science Bowl, I am
confident that that I will be able my dream is not too far. to reach this landmark during
my high school experience.
