Curriculum Plan

Topic/Title of Lesson: Tornado in a Bottle Focused Domain: Cognitive
Age Group: Preschool

Goal: Introduce the children of how a tornado is formed.

Objective: The children will create a tornado in a plastic bottle.

Procedure: In a plastic bottle fill the bottle of water until it reaches 3 quarters
full, add a few drops of liquid dish detergent and glitter to the bottle. Screw the
cap on the bottle tightly, turn the bottle upside down and hold it by the neck.
Quickly spin the bottle in a circular motion for a few seconds, stop and look
inside to see if you can see a mini tornado forming in the water. You might
need to try it a few times before you get it working properly.

Advanced Preparation: Make sure you have all the materials

List Materials: liquid dish detergent, plastic bottle enough for each student,
Glitter.

Developmental Benefits: Social, physical (fine and gross motor), language,
creativity, and emotional

Future Plans: Talk about the affect a tornado can do and how they are formed.
