Riverside Police Handle Multiple Injury Crash on First Avenue North of Ridgewood
Texas family injured in auto crash just north of the construction site at First and Ridgewood

On Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 10:53 a.m., the Riverside Police Department received multiple cellular
911 calls reporting an injury accident on First Avenue north of Ridgewood in the southbound lanes
adjacent to the Brookfield Zoo. When officers arrived, they found traffic had come to a standstill and there
were multiple injuries to the driver and passenger of one of the vehicles.
It was learned from the investigation that a 2001 Chevy Town and Country Minivan was traveling
southbound First Avenue at the Zoo Woods. The driver of this minivan changed lanes from the curb lane
to the center lane and struck a vehicle which was already in the center lane. That vehicle was a 2012
Cadillac SRX.
There were multiple injuries in the vehicle that was struck and Riverside Paramedics, North Riverside
Paramedics and Lyons Paramedics transported three individuals to Loyola University Medical Center for
treatment. The injuries appeared to be non-life threatening, however, four victims from the Cadillac all
from Texas, were transported to Loyola University including a 32 year old female, 11-year old male, a 5
year old male and a 2 year old male. The driver of the Cadillac was from Roma Starr, Texas and the
passengers were from Rio Grande, Texas. The Riverside Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to
extricate individuals from the Cadillac. There were a total of five individuals in the Cadillac including the
driver. The family was headed to the Brookfield Zoo when the accident took place.
Ticketed in this crash was Antonio Delgadillo, 79 of Chicago. He was issued a citation for
improper lane usage on a laned roadway. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Riverside Police, assisted by the North Riverside Police Department, shut down First Avenue in both
directions between 31st Street and Ridgewood Road for one hour and ten minutes.
