Two teenage boys were seriously injured in a single-vehicle collision in Lisbon, Howard County overnight on December 22, 2011. According to the police report, a 17-year-old male driver from Sykesville lost control of his vehicle while traveling at a high rate of speed on a wet road, causing the car to leave the roadway and strike a telephone pole, tree, and overturn. Both the 17-year-old driver and his 16-year-old passenger, Jessie Michael Byrd of Sykesville, were transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries. Speed and wet road conditions appear to be factors in the collision, which remains under investigation.

Two teens injured in single-vehicle collision
The Howard County police traffic enforcement section is investigating a single-vehicle collision in which two teens were injured overnight in Lisbon. At approximately 10:18 p.m. on Wednesday, the driver of a 2011 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Frederick Road at Bahner Court. The vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a telephone pole, rotated, struck a tree and overturned. The juvenile driver, a 17-year-old male from Sykesville, was transported to the University of Maryland, Shock Trauma Center, in serious condition. His name is being withheld due to the possibility of pending charges. The front seat passenger, Jessie Michael Byrd, 16, also of Sykesville, was transported to Shock Trauma, where he is listed in serious condition. Preliminary investigation revealed that speed and wet roadways were factors in this serious collision. The collision is being investigated by PFC Mark Reid. ###
