BICYCLIST COLLISION ***UPDATE-APRIL 12, 2012***


The bicyclist victim involved in the collision that occurred at the intersection of Columbia Rd. and Normandy Heights Rd. on the morning of April 11, 2012 has been identified as Michael S. Heaney (25) of Morristown previously of Sicklerville, NJ. His condition remains critical. The driver of the 2008 Toyota Rav4 that collided with him was Judith Lewis (64) of Convent Station, NJ. No summonses have been issued to the driver at this time. The collision remains under investigation and witnesses are asked to call the Morris Township Police Traffic Unit at (973) 326-7436. Summary of Incident/Arrest: At approximately 9:55 AM on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, the Morris Township Police Department was notified via 9-1-1 of a collision involving a bicyclist in the area of Columbia Rd. and Normandy Heights Rd. Officers from the Operation Division responded to the area and discovered a male bicyclist had been struck by a west bound vehicle in the intersection. Emergency medical personnel from the Morris Minute Men First Aid Squad and Atlantic Health Cares MICU responded to scene to tend to the critically injured bicyclist. The injured victim was transported to the Morristown Medical Center for further treatment. Next of kin have not yet been notified. The driver of the involved vehicle did not report any injuries. Officers from the Morris Township Serious Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene in order to further investigate. They examined and collected roadway evidence as well as conducted interviews with the driver of the vehicle who remained at the scene and cooperated fully. The investigation caused Columbia Rd. to be closed for approximately 3-hours. The incident remains under investigation and anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to call the Morris Township Traffic Unit at (973) 326-7436.
