Car vs School Bus Collision

On May 02, 2012 at 09:00 am, Morris Township Police responded to a two vehicle collision on Columbia Rd. Upon patrols arrival they found a Subaru wagon, in stop and go traffic had rear ended a school bus operated for the Morris School District. The school bus was fully occupied with students from the Normandy Parkway Elementary School. Transportation was arranged to transport half of the students who were uninjured to the school while medical attention was given to the nineteen (19) students who advised of possible injuries. All injuries were limited to minor complaints of pain. The sole occupant of the passenger vehicle did not report being injured. EMS crews from the Morris Township FD, Morris Minute Men FAS, Morristown, Madison, New Vernon, Cedar Knolls, Florham Park, and Mendham responded to assist and transport the injured to Morristown Medical Center. Notification to the parents of the concerned students was made by the Morris School District. Columbia Rd. was closed in both directions between Normandy Parkway and Whippany Rd. for approximately 1-hour while the injured were tended to and the collision investigated. Once the students were offloaded, the bus was driven away from the scene. As a result of minor front end damage the passenger car was towed from the scene. At the conclusion of the incident the driver of the passenger car was issued a summons for carless driving at the scene and released.
