What is Descriptive Research?
The descriptive type of study seeks to find
answers to the questions who, what, when,
where and how.
This type of research describes a situation
or a given state of affairs in terms of
specified aspects or factors.
What may be described?
Characteristics of individuals/groups
Farmers, students, entrepreneurs, parents,
administrators
Physical environments
Schools, hospitals, business establishments
Conditions.
Leadership styles, productivity, perception,
habits, etc.
Application:
When the study objective calls to describe a
situation/condition or a study population as it
exists, or to determine/describe the
characteristics of a population/respondents.
Results are appropriate for profile and
situational analysis.
Examples of Descriptive
Research?
Best example is found in biology, zoology
and botany where each variety of animal and
plant species is meticulously described and
information is organized into useful
taxonomic categories.
