gor Ivnovich Sikorski
gor was born in Kiev, Ukraine on May 25, 1889 und he died in Easton,
Connecticut in the United States on October 26, 1972.
This man was an aviation pioneer who designed the first four-engine plane and the
first helicopter manufactured in chain.
Between the aircraft he designed are the S-6 three-passenger plane on 1912, the
VS-44 Excambian flying boat on 1942 and the R-4, Which was the world's first
production helicopter, on 1942, one of his most important designs because until
today this kind of helicopter is still used all over the world by civilians. Of course, in
comparison with other helicopters from today on day, this one can seems very
simple, actually like one of the simplest aircrafts in the world but its design was the
basis for the construction of the various helicopters we know today because all its
kind can fly thanks to the same basic principle.
This helicopter has evolved so much, the first one could be flown with only one
passenger, whom was the entire crew, and weight by itself was of 952 kg. Now this
kind of helicopters can be flown with two passengers, even more depending of the
model, weighing only 600kg, being empty, so are very effective today and shows to
be one of the biggest engineering works ever designed.
