Joseph Plateau Joseph Plateau was a Belgian physicist who was considered to be one of the very

first people ever to create the illusion of a moving image, in 1829 Joseph Plateau thought of the
ideas that would eventually become the phenakistoscope, it wasnt actually until 1839 that he
started working on it and then in 1841 the phenakistoscope. The phenakistoscope is a machine
that has a disc in it with several images all around it, it would fit inside and then you would turn
the handle and the images would move so fast the the images would blur together to give the
illusion that it was a moving. Joseph Plateau was very proud of this, Though an Austrian inventor
called Simon Von Stampfer invented a very similar machine the same year which left him with a
lot of competition.

Emile Reynaud Charles Emile Reynaud was a French animator who made some of the first cartoons
in history, in the 1870s during his 30s he made lots of short animation cartoons with his world
famous invention, the Praxiniscope, very similar to the Zoetrope which was created by William
Horner, it would have a wheel of images on the inside and you would have to turn a lever to make
the images blur together to make one short production. He then later on in the 1880s and 1890s
went to make short movies, these were very successful.
