PROTEINS
Proteins are needed for growth and to build and repair body tissues, the regulation of
body processes, supply of energy, maintenance of strength, and resisting infection. There
are two types of proteins: complete and incomplete.
Complete proteins are those that contain all of the essential amino acids, such as
meat, fish, poultry, milk, yogurt, soybeans, and eggs.
ncomplete proteins are those that come from plant sources and do not contain all of
the essential amino acids. ncomplete proteins from plant sources fall into three
general categories: grains !whole grains, pastas, and corn", legumes !dried beans,
peas, and lentils", and nuts and seeds.
