Background of the Problem
We have been commissioned to be an outside contractor to develop a re-use for a particular
product that would otherwise be tossed out with the trash. The company is NOT lookin for
TRA!" ART. There needs to be a viable and novel recyclable use for this product. #n order to
open up the creativity for the e$ercise% the customer is ivin you a constraint market area
and product waste item that needs a new commercial purpose.
Problem and Goal Statement
&ardboard is the sinle larest component of municipal solid waste
that businesses produce each year. Nearly '( million tons of cardboard
end up in land)lls each year.
The product we were iven to recycle was a card-board liner used to
protect edes of furniture and such durin shippin.
Our task was to create products usin this card-board liner in order to recycle
it
Our oal is to produce an e*ective product usin a recycled anled
cardboard into somethin useful.

Notebooks could be made from the cardboard% as well as other
school supplies.

The cardboard is very sturdy% and if applied correctly% could be
used to construct tables.

&ard-board could possibly be used in ardenin to channel water
and line ardens. The cardboard would have to be lined with a
plastic or rubber cover to prevent the card-board from breakin
down
Selection of Be$t Solution
Our best solution is the notebook covers. They are most e*ective because
you wouldn9t have to do much in order for the cardboard to be turned into a
notebook cover. The baby protector is 7ust not a plausible idea it still is not
an ideal product to protect babies from hard corners.
