Lab Practice 2
Measuring Velocity and Acceleration

Objectives:
Found the average velocity and average acceleration of an object that rolls
over an inclined plane
Learn how to find the acceleration of an object in motion
Understand the concept of velocity and acceleration

Methodology:
Using an inclined plane and a stop watch calculate the average velocity and
average acceleration of different objects.
Theoretical Framework:
Displacement: A vector or the magnitude of a vector from the initial position to a
subsequent position assumed by a body.
Average velocity: is the total amount of distance from the starting point (also
known as displacement) divided by the amount of time passed to get to the final
destination.
Average Speed: is the distance traveled divided by the amount of time taken to
make the journey, not including any stops or breaks.
Average Acceleration: is the rate at which velocity changes. Average acceleration
is the change in velocity divided by an elapsed time.
Procedure:
1. Using the incline plane roll different objects starting at a distance of 5 cm.
Take the time it takes to reach the end of the inclined plane. Perform at least
5 measurements per distance.
2. Repeat the measurements adding 5 cm to the distance until you reach the
final of the inclined plane.
3. Repeat the steps 1 and 2 with two more objects.
4. For each fill the table show below and specified the object.
