DRUG STUDY FOR PARACETAMOL
GENERIC NAME: paracetamol
BRAND NAME: Biogesic
THERAPEUTIC CLASS: Antipyretic, Analgesic
THERAPEUTIC ACTION:
Decreases fever by inhibiting the efects of pyrogens on the hypothalamus heat regulating centers &
by a hypothalamic action leading to sweating & vasodilatation.
Relieves pain by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis at the CNS but does not have anti-infammatory
action because of its minimal efect on peripheral prostaglandin synthesis.
INDICATIONS:
*Relief of mild-to-moderate pain; treatment of fever.
ACTUAL INDICATION: Relief of pain.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity; intolerance to tartrazine (yellow dye #5), alcohol, table sugar, saccharin;
Contraindicated with allergy to acetaminophen
SIDE EFFECTS: constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, minimal G.I disturbance
ADVERSE EFFECTS: Minimal GI upset; Methemoglobinemia; Hemolytic Anemia; Neutropenia;
Thrombocytopenia; Pancytopenia; Leukopenia; Urticaria; CNS stimulation; Hypoglycemic coma;
Jaundice; Glissitis; Drowsiness; Liver Damage
AVAILABLE FORMS,DOSAGE AND ROUTES:
Oral or rectally adults and adolescents with a body weight over 60 kg is used in a single dose of 500
mg, the multiplicity of admission - up to 4 times / Maximum duration of treatment - 5-7 days.
Maximum dose: single - 1 g, daily - 4 g.
Single dose for oral administration for children aged 6-12 years - 250-500 mg, 1-5 years - 120-250 mg,
from 3 months to 1 year - 60-120 mg, up to 3 months - 10 mg / kg. Single dose rectal in children aged
6-12 years - 250-500 mg, 1-5 years - 125-250 mg.
Multiplicity - 4 at intervals of not less than 4 h. The maximum duration of treatment - 3 days.
Maximum dose: 4 single dose per day.
ACTUAL DOSAGE: paracetamol 500mg 1 tab PRN for fever
DRUG TO DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Some products that may interact with this drug include: "blood thinners" (such as warfarin),
isoniazid.
This medication may interfere with certain laboratory tests, possibly causing false test results. Make
sure laboratory personnel and all your doctors know you use this drug.
Nurisng Considerations & Patient Teachings:
1.Do not exceed 4gm/24hr. in adults and 75mg/kg/day in children.
2.Do not take for more than 3 days for fever in adults.
3.Extended-Release tablets are not to be chewed.
4.Monitor CBC, liver and renal functions.
5.Assess for fecal occult blood and nephritis.
6.Avoid using OTC drugs with Acetaminophen.
7.Take with food or milk to minimize GI upset.
8.Report N&V. cyanosis, shortness of breath and abdominal pain as these are signs of toxicity.
9.Report paleness, weakness and heart beat skips
10.Report abdominal pain, jaundice, dark urine, itchiness or clay-colored stools.
11.Phenmacetin may cause urine to become dark brown or wine-colored.
12.Report pain that persists for more than 3-5 days
13.Avoid alcohol.
14.This drug is not for regular use with any form of liver disease.

DRUG STUDY FOR AMPICILLIN
GENERIC NAME: ampicillin
BRAND NAME: Ampicillin
THERAPEUTIC CLASS: Beta Lactam Antiibiotic
THERAPEUTIC ACTION: This inhibits third and fnal stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis thus
killing the bacteria. It has a highly bacteriocidal activity.
INDICATIONS: Ampicillin is used for treating infections of the middle ear, sinuses, stomach and
intestines, bladder, and kidney caused by susceptible bacteria. It also is used for treating
uncomplicated gonorrhea, meningitis, endocarditis and other serious infections.
ACTUAL INDICATION: Used in my patient to eliminate infection caused by accumulation of fuid in
lungs.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Contraindicated to patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin derivatives.
SIDE EFFECTS: CNS convulsive seizures. GI diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, epigastric pain
ADVERSE EFFECTS: Phlebitis, burns, urticaria, pruritus, superinfection
USUAL DOSAGE:
7 days or less, 2000 g or less: 50 mg/kg IM or IV every 12 hours
7 days or less, greater than 2000 g: 50 mg/kg IM or IV every 8 hours
7 days or less, 250-500mg q6 hours
8 to 28 days, 2000 g or less: 50 mg/kg IM or IV every 8 hours
8 to 28 days, greater than 2000 g: 50 mg/kg IM or IV every 6 hours
ACTUAL DOSAGE: Ampicillin 250mg cap q6 hours
INTERACTIONS:
Drug-drug
Increased ampicillin efect with probenecid
Increased risk of rash with allopurinol
Increased bleeding efect with heparin, oral anticoagulants
Decreased efectiveness with tetracyclines, chloramphenicol
Decreased efcacy of hormonal contraceptives, atenolol with ampicillin
Drug-food
Oral ampicillin may be less efective with food; take on an empty stomach
Drug-lab test
False-positive Coombs' test if given IV
Decrease in plasma estrogen concentrations in pregnant women
False-positive urine glucose tests if Clinitest, Benedict's solution, or Fehling's
solution is used; enzymatic glucose oxidase methods (Clinistix, Tes-Tape)
should be used to check urine glucose
Nurisng Considerations & Patient Teachings:
Instruct patient to take the drug on time and complete prescribed dosage.
Take the drug on an empty stomach 1 hour before meals or two hours after meals.
Capsules must be stored at 15 and 30 c temperature.
Inspect patient daily to note adverse efects. Report to physician if noted.

DRUG STUDY FOR MULTIVITAMINS
Generic & Brand Name: multivitamins (Centrum)
Functional Classifcation: Vitamins and minerals
Mechanism of Action: Multivitamins are dietary supplement for treatment and prevention of vitamin
defciencies.
Indications: Multivitamins and minerals are also used to treat vitamin or mineral defciencies caused
by illness, pregnancy, poor nutrition, digestive disorders, certain medications, and many other
conditions.
Actual Indication: Indicated in my patient for improvement of immune system and supply sufcient
vitamins and minerals to the body.
Contraindications: Contraindicated to patients with hypersensitivity to vitamins.
Usual Dosage: 300mg-500/q8.P.O
Actual Dosage: 50omg 1 tab/ OD 8am/ IV
Side Efects: dizziness, drowsiness, abdominal pain
Adverse Efects: nausea and vomiting, skin rash, tinnitus
Drug Interactions: No known drug interactions.
Nurisng Considerations & Patient Teachings:
Instruct patient to take this medicine with a full glass of water. Avoid milk or other dairy
products.
Instruct patient not to crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet.
Swallow it whole.
Instruct patient to Never take more than the recommended dose of multivitamins and
minerals.
Advise patient to eat fruits and vegetables and do not rely only to the multivitamins
supplement.
