Title of the lesson: Families
Materials: Students book, board.
Lesson aims
By the end of the lesson the students will:
-be able to discriminate between verbs not normally used in the continuous.
-tell the meaning of the words related to family.

Stages of the lesson
Activity 1 Warm up
The teacher checks the homework, makes sure that everybody has done it, and then corrects the
mistakes, if necessary.

Activity 2 Grammar flash
With books closed, the teacher writes one or two example sentences on the board in the present
simple, using verbs from the grammar flash (I hate loud music, She owns a fast car, They need a new
video. She avoids using verbs where the meaning changes in the continuous. Then she asks
students: Can you use these verbs in the continuous?
After that, she points out the examples of the verbs which can change their meaning when used in
the continuous tense

Activity 3 Practice
a) the teacher points out the example in the SB. Ss complete the exercise individually, then check
answers in pairs; then she goes through the answers with the whole class, asking students which
time is used and why (2-dont believe, 3-s thinking, 4-hate, 5-never remembers, 6-are they living, 7-s
seeing, 8-doesnt realise, 9-thinks.)

Activity 4 Family members
The teacher shows students the example in the SB. In small groups, students have to discuss the
meaning of the words. The teacher elicits the answers from the whole class and asks them if there
are examples of these words in their own families. Then, they have to write the definition for each
item.

Activity 5 Seeing double
Before reading: the teacher writes identical twins on the board and she explains the meaning if
necessary. Then she asks them if they know any identical twins.
After that, she asks students to read the vocabulary in part a) and then to read the text and guess the
meaning of the words. Ss then discuss the vocabulary in pairs; then the teacher checks with the
whole class, explaining the words and checking pronunciation as necessary.
