Definition of a Noun
A noun is a word that
names a person, place,
thing, or idea.
Abstract nouns are ideas. They
are nouns you cant see.
Examples: friendship,
strength, love, exploration,
anger
Collective Nouns
Collective nouns are
used to define a
group of objects.
Examples: team,
class, group, herd
Common Nouns
A common noun is a general
name for a person, place, thing
or idea. Common nouns are
not capitalized.
Example: My teacher went to
the city.
A proper noun is the name
of a particular person,
place, thing or idea. Proper
nouns are always capitalized.
Example: Mrs. Short went
to Atlanta.
A plural noun names more than one
person, place, thing or idea.
Example: The boys walked down all
of the streets.
A singular noun names one person,
place, thing or idea.
Example: The boy walked down the
street.
Possessive Nouns
A possessive noun shows
ownership or relationship.
Example: Marcy went to
Robins house for dinner.
