As a class, we have examined how a large portion of our society have LDs and have discovered
ways to support their needs in order to become successful. An important part of accomplishing
this is understanding exactly what LDs are. Understanding this has prepared you for the following
task:

You are to work in groups of 2 or 3 and research a specific LD

Below is a checklist you should follow in completing this task:
Characteristics of the LD
Percentage of the population affected by the LD
Strategies students can use to assist them in coping with the LD
Classroom Accommodations available to a student with the LD
Famous people and/or celebrities with the LD

Each group is to choose from one of the following LDs:
1. Autism
2. ADHD
3. Dyslexia
4. Auditory and Visual Processing Disorder
5. Dysgraphia
6. Other: ______________ ?

Each group is to gather rough research notes (typed or written) and then approved by a teacher
once it is completed. Upon approval, the group is to put together a creative PowerPoint
presentation and deliver an oral presentation to the class.

When you are giving a presentation in class, you want to COMMUNICATE CLEARLY and make
sure you are heard and understood. Read the tips below to help you:

1. DELIVERY:
o Introduce yourself and your topic
o Do not rush
o Make sure you sound enthusiastic
o Avoid umm, likeee, you knowww.

2. EYE CONTACT:
o Keep your head up
o Avoid reading everything
o Speak to the audience by making eye contact

3. POSTURE:
o Stand up straight
o Face audience
o Avoid fidgeting

4. SPEAKING:
o Be loud so everyone can hear you
o Do NOT chew gum!!!

5. CONCLUSION:
o Ask audience if they have any questions
o Thank audience for their attention
