If f x 2 x 2 5 and g x
Solution:
Find (fog)x
x 5 then
(fog)x = f(g(x))
= f(
x5)
= 2
x 5
+5
= 2(x-5) + 5
= 2x - 10 + 5
(fog)x = 2x - 5
There is no under root of negative number and also not getting divide by 0. So the
domain and range is as follows
Domain = (-, +) Wrong !
Range = (-, +) Marks = 2
Question 2;
Marks: 6
g x 9 x 5,
xR
Is g x bijective function? Prove or disprove.
Solution:
A function that is both one-to-one (injective) and onto (surjective) function is called a
bijective function so to prove g(x) = 9x2 + 5 is bijective function, we need to
prove that this function is one-to-one (injective) and onto (surjective)
One to one (injective)
Let x1, x2 R such that g(x1) = g(x2)
9x1 + 5 = 9x2 + 5 (by definition of g)
9x1 = 9x2 (subtracting 5 from both sides)
x1 = x2 (dividing both sides by 9)
Hence g is one to one (injective)
Onto (surjective)
Let y R we search for x R such that g(x) = y
9x + 5 = y (by definition of g)
Solved it for x, we find
x=
y5
9
y5
such that
9
g(x) = g (
g(x) = y
Hence g is onto (surjective)
Question 3;
Find the 15th term of the given sequence 9, 27 , 81, .....
Solution:
Let a be the first term and r be the ratio of geometric sequence.
a = -9
r=
27
= -3
9
n = 15th
a15 = ar15-1 = ar14
a15 = -9 (-314)
a15 = -9 (4782969)
a15 = - 43046721
