Aliki Faipule Foua Toloa of Fakaofo, Tokelau has been given the blessing of the Tokelau
General Fono (National Assembly) in accepting a nomination to join the Solar Head of
State (SHOS) Advisory Board.
SHOS is a non-profit organisation established with a mission to partner with responsible
Aliki Faipule Foua Toloa
Governments around the world to install free, money saving solar power systems on
Fakaofo, TOKELAU
each countrys Executive Residence to:

Demonstrate their commitment to their countrys transition from a harmful fossil

fuel based energy infrastructure;

Lead the world by example in a call for new international climate leadership; and

Catalyse the development of favourable renewable energy policy in their country.
By 2100 sea levels are projected to rise by up to 82cm, threatening the security of low
lying cities and countries around the world and destabilising the global economy. As the
worlds most influential people, heads of state have an opportunity to face this threat
head on, and lead the way toward a more sustainable existence for all of mankind.
All profound leaders recognise the significance of leading by example and SHOS is
helping world leaders take this crucial first step, catalysing the process of converting
their countrys antiquated fossil fuel based infrastructure into the job-creating,
environmentally sustainable, economically beneficial energy infrastructure of the future.
At the General Fono held 24 26 February on Atafu, Tokelau, Faipule Toloa was
unanimously supported to take up the Advisory Board member role in recognition of
Tokelaus achievement of being the first nation to have 100% of its electricity needs
provided through a solar energy system.
The founder of SHOS, Mr Brian Somers in submitted the nomination for Faipule Toloa
in recognition of his outstanding leadership and tireless efforts to convert your nation,
Tokelau to one hundred percent solar power.
Faipule Toloa is very humbled by the nomination and intends to maximise this
opportunity to promote the use of solar energy world-wide as well as raising global
awareness of strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change on small island
nations such as Tokelau.
