KEY TO BEING A

GOOD PARENT

Is it important to be a good parent?

What is parenting?
Parenting is the process of promoting and supporting
the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual
development of a child from infancy to adulthood.
Parenting refers to the aspects of raising a child
aside from the biological relationship.

Being a parent is one of the most fulfilling

experiences a person can have. The most
important thing a parent can give their child,
however, is a sense of being loved.

The goal of parenting is to help

your child develop into a
decent, self-confident human
being, and NOT to show them
whos the boss in your family or
to instill fear!

Good parenting helps foster

empathy, honesty, selfreliance, self-control, kindness,
cooperation, and cheerfulness.
It also promotes intellectual
curiosity, motivation, and
desire to achieve

for autonomy.

8. Avoid harsh discipline

children
- Time out instead of spanking.

their parents treat them

How to be a good parent: Its all about

you!
Research has shown that the one thing a person can do
to be a better parent is to focus on developing him or
herself. This is where a person has to start in order to be
a loving, involved mother or father.
We project our critical feelings about ourselves on to
our children.
The ambivalent attitudes we have toward our children
are simply a reflection of the ambivalent attitudes we
have toward ourselves. It is not uncommon for parents
to disown their self-critical attitudes by projecting them
onto their child.
As a result, children begin to see themselves through a
negative filter, which will stay with them throughout
their lives.
