In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions
of media products?
For my main image, I have used a medium close up of a boy which only includes his head and
also his shoulders as displayed on the Red magazine cover. However, my main image also
includes a background which plays a big part of the front cover whereas the Red example
does not. The reason for this is because I want my magazine to include a variety of mise-enscene and also to look fairly colourful. In the main image for my magazine, the person
displayed also shows direct address as theyre looking directly into the camera. This effect
makes the audience feel as if theyre involved with the magazine. This feature on my
magazine also compares to the front cover of the Red magazine. Another main comparison
from my magazine to the Red magazine is the coverlines. The coverlines run down the side of
the page to try and intrigue the audience and stands out to the other features on the front
page. However, there are some differences to my magazine and the Red magazine. For
example, the Red magazine has a very different masthead to the one I have used. The Red
magazine masthead is in the corner whereas mine runs across the top. The masthead is a
main feature on the magazine as it is the name of the publication. The masthead lets the
audience know what magazine theyre buying. I have decided to use a bold, clear masthead
to highlight what the name of my magazine is. The masthead used in the Red magazine is
also very clever as it has a mixture of two colours so it makes it stand out a lot.
