Selecting a Catnic Lintel

What you need to know

What is the wall construction?

How wide is the structural opening?

a) Measure the size of the structural opening


i.e. the open space between the walls
where the door/window frame is fitted
b) Add 150mm minimum to each end

Cavity wall
Timber frame
External solid wall
Internal partition or load bearing wall

You need to know:


a) Outer leaf
eg. 102mm
b) Cavity
eg. 60mm
c) Inner leaf
eg. 100mm

Length of lintel = 150mm+1800mm+150mm = 2100mm

STEP 3 Load on Lintel

What load is to be supported by the lintel?

Once you have:

Cavity eg. 60mm
Inner leaf eg. 100mm
Lintel length eg. 2100mm
Load eg. 15kN

You can choose what type of lintel to use:

Classic Combined Box

CXL Fabricated Lintel

Timber Frame

Internal Solid Wall

External Solid Wall

Structural
