There is a distinct different voice within each different genre of writing, because
there is a different goal attached to reaching their target audience(s) within
various genres.

In order for written communication to be effective, it has to be visually appealing,

have a logical structure and contain relevant and clear information.
By deciding who your target audience is, you can adapt your vocabulary and
style of approach in order to reach the audience as efficiently as possibl
When making a statement of facts, it should be backed-up with legitimate
research data

When youre writing you need to know who your audience is.
The only wayto reach your reader is to give them a common ground.

1. It is important to know your target audience when you are giving

a messag

2. Authors use different type of writing styles in different writing

3. You are never going to master the art of writing perfectly

In Santa Barbara, the real estate market is hugely over priced, a problem than
can affect low income families as well as middle class families, and a solution
needs to be found.

1. An organization working to help those in need, requires influential and powerful

writing artifacts to persuade the reader to support their cause.
2. Influencing others to support a good cause requires ethos, pathos, and logos
3. Good writing is the hook that catches the readers attention, and with the skill of
good writing, the possibilities are endless.

Describe examples of writing artifacts from No Kid Hungry and explain how
they influenced me as a writer. Use this to back up thesis. Explain how successful
program is.

The Domestic violence organization use videos, pictures,

statistics, social media and their webpage to reach out to the
community in Santa Barbara and make them aware of the social
justice issue.

When using different genres, the use of Pathos and real victims
will reach out to the audience more deeply and in a longer term
then just facts with no emotional.

There is no right way to create awareness on a social justice

issue spread via social media. There is a wrong way, to not get
the masse out there.

You can not write about somebody else story without using rhetoric.

In order to learn how to write persuasively, you need to appeal to

your audience, provide ethos, and include humor.

the language so it appeals to your audience, write about
something you are passionate about, and have fun writing it

2.
The world of writing has always been very scripted in terms of having
good grammar skills and sticking to a strict vocabulary; My thought is
why not focus more on formatsomething that actually has a huge roll
in drawing the reader inso that the readers can relate the topic to the
layout.

1. Writing is communication and to be an effective communicator

ethos, logos, pathos, and kairos must play a part in writing.
Why Rhetoric?

2. Genre helps determine our audience, sets the tone for the form
of our writing and gives the writer purpose.

Writing has a constant learning curve

1. When presenting an argument, you must appeal to the pathos,

or emotions of people, through proper ethos, or ethics, and logos
meaning logic to stimulate learning, and therefore create
desired action.
2. Regardless of the topic at hand, a strong argument is defined by
two basic components: a statement and proof.

3. When undergoing the writing process, one of the most integral

ways in creating effective writing is through the correct use of
genre, and knowing how to address your audience.

1) Sexual assault on college campuses in the United States is one of

the biggest social issues in which there is lack of attention, response,
and action. However, the most important factor to focus on is the
survivor of sexual assault and how to help them in their trauma. Areas
such as the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center (S.B.R.C.C) reach out to
survivors through programs, counseling, and follow protocol of how to
support them through a difficult time in their life
2)
A college student who is survivor of sexual assault has
experienced one of the biggest traumas in their life, but they have a

fear that prevents them from not speaking. The Santa Barbara Rape
Crisis Center (S.B.R.C.C) offers support for the survivor, provides a
safe place to be heard, and to help them understand that this was
not their fault.

3) Recently college campuses across the United States have been

under investigation from not reporting crimes of sexual assault
because of the schools reputation. However, there is a push to
increase awareness about sexual assault on college campuses and
supporting the survivors to speak up about their experience. Places like
the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center help students go through the
healing process by listening intently and helping them through social
repercussions that

because it gives it a good structure, which will make it seem more professional.

In the world of education, there are several different types of genres.

These genres can be as simple as a pamphlet for schools or a weekly newsletter.
When focusing on the concept of Special Education services, the documents
filed and processed often take more in depth research to complet.
#2Working as an educator, I have gained an amount of knowledge to what
specific documents lend to a childs educational goal. For the purpose of this
paper, I have analyzed several artifacts related to Special Education services.
There are a wide range of genres that is covered when creating these documents
due to who the creator of the document is trying to reach.

I have finally settled on a social justice topic, as well as an organization

that would work with me in providing artifacts and a personal interview. It is a
familiar topic for me being that I work in the education field. As I approach writing
my paper on social justice, I drafted up these two thesis statements on the idea
of how it would get my point about the different types of writing done when
working with the county school system, private preschool programs, and familie.

If I were to choose either one of these thesis statements, I would pull

information from my artifacts. I have parent emails, forms filed to receive services
for children, forms used to determine a childs level of learning, and parent
consent forms to providing services. I would pull information from Everythings an
Argument and Understanding Rhetoric on knowing your audience, the different
types of genres used, and how these genres can allow different forms of

- Same-sex couples should have access to the same benefits enjoyed by heterosexual
married couples.
- This is an important issue because it concerns basic moral and human rights.

1.
GRACE is a local foundation that upholds a dedication to
bring equal and accepted LGBT rights into our society. Their purpose to
fight for this much needed social justice issue, while creating a safe,
enjoyable environment for LGBT citizens in their county. Since they are
a foundation, they have to combine many forms of advertising and
information to present their mission statement while encouraging
others to take part in their many events and meetings. Although they
have many forms of sharing about their foundation, their best type of
advertising is through the use of pamphlets with various colors,
symbols, and the simplicity of provided information promoting
upcoming events through their foundation. As a writer it is important to
acknowledge and analyze the ways in which information is given;
therefore this essay will discuss the most remarkable ways of genre
usage that pulls the reader in with interes.

2.
When we refer to the topic of a social justice issue, we are
presenting an ongoing issue in todays society that needs to be
addressed and supported. A current social justice issue is the fight for
LGBT citizens to be treated equally as others in our society. One
foundation that is fighting for this particular justice is a local group
called GRACE. They host LGBT events and weekly meetings for LGBT
people and their allies, providing them with a safe, fun, and supported
environment. In order to properly gain societys attention, GRACE must
use creative ways to advertise their events and foundations purpose.
Although they do this in several ways, one of their strongest points is
using symbols, such as the equal rights sign, in all of their flyers,
website links, and pamphlets to have people connect their foundation
with the support of LGBT right. This is a type of genre that specifically
focuses on ways to draw a viewers attention and uphold interest.

1. Topic: Target audience

When writing any artifact, before you can put pen to paper
you need to clearly distinguish your target audience and
use the right genre.
How I will prove my thesis:
-From the writing artifacts that I collected and
analyzed, the information I gained from my interview, and
my course readings. I have collected data that proves that
knowing your target audience is essential and sets the
tone of your genre and overall the content of the paper. By
knowing your audience you can shape your content and
tone to meet their needs.

The website for El Concilio Family Services lacks on assisting its

targeted Spanish Speaking audience; in fact, it's only in the English
language which gives the impression that Spanish Speaking
individuals are not able to navigate the internet.

1.) The Santa Barbara Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse

(CADA), along with other representatives, provide a support role to the Santa
Barbara Substance Abuse Treatment Court (SATC). Most of the forms and
documentation utilized by the SATC have been produced in association with
CADA. These documents have been written for the benefit of those in the
support roles and not for the program participant. Although the participants can
realize opportunities and benefits from the program I dont believe they fully
understand the writings associated with the SATC

2.) The Santa Barbara Substance Abuse Treatment Court (SATC) is a

program offered by the Santa Barbara Superior Court to people charged with
drug related offenses. There are several auxiliary organizations that are involved
with the SATC program including the Santa Barbara Council on Alcoholism
and Drug Abuse (CADA). CADA manages the rehabilitation part of the
program and provides documents and forms related to the expectations for
all involved. The participants must agree to many conditions set forth in
their contract and uphold their end of the bargain to finish successfully.
Even though there is much at stake for the participants its likely they dont
understand many of the details of the process based on all the documents
involved.
