Theseus:
The Duke of Athens
Greek Hero
About to marry Hippolyta (conquered Amazon queen)
Theseus projects confidence, authority, and benevolent
power.

Characters
Hippolyta:
Legendary queen of the Amazons
Engaged to marry Theseus
She is a seemingly willing bride

Characters
Egeus:
Respected nobleman
He is upset that his daughter Hermia refuses to marry
the man that he has chosen for her, Demetrius.
He is severely controlling of his daughter

Characters
Hermia:
Egeuss daughter
A beautiful young woman of Ahten
Both Demetrius and Lysander are in love with her
She wishes to marry Lysander against her fathers will
She is strong-willed and independent

Lysander:
A young nobleman of Athens
In love with Hermia
Believes that love must conquer all obstacles

Characters
Demetrius:
Young nobleman of Athens
In the past he acted as though he was in love with
Helena, but after Helena fell in love with him he
changed his mind towards Hermia.
Demetrius is unaffected by the fact that Hermia does
not want him.

In love with Demetrius
Tends to speak in a self-pitying tone
She puts herself in dangerous and humiliating
situations.

Overconfident weaver chosen to play Pyramus in a play
that a group of craftsmen have decided to put on for
Theseuss wedding celebration.
He is full of advice and self-confidence but frequently
makes silly mistakes and misuses language.
