Competency Presentation 6

EP2.1.6: Engage in research-informed practice

and practice-informed research.

EP2.1.6: Engage in research-informed

practice and practice-informed research.
Social workers use practice experience to inform
research, employ evidence-based interventions,
evaluate their own practice and use research
findings to improve practice, policy, and social
service delivery. Social workers comprehend
quantitative and qualitative research and
understand scientific and ethical approaches to
building knowledge.

Practice Behavior 6.1

Use practice experience
to inform scientific
inquiry.

In this internship I have

seen at first hand how the
problem of social
isolation affects elderly
clients in our agency
practice. This has
encouraged me to
research this subject for a
class project.

Practice Behavior 6.2

Use research evidence to
inform practice.

Based on knowledge
learned in Substance
Abuse classes, I was able
to inform a Social Worker
that an elderly client who
appeared to have
dementia to police, may
have been abusing her
Xanax prescription.
