Analysing a magazine front cover.

Representation- the masthead of the

Audience- the target audience of VIBE

magazine is VIBE. Vibe is a suitable name as the

word relates to music; which is good as the target
audience would be able to tell what the magazine
is even without reading it. The mast head is
partly cover by the main image which suggest
that the producers of VIBE are confident that
VIBE is a well known music magazine. Also the
masthead is in bold red font which stands out
well on the blue/black background and the colour
red suggests danger which could show that T.I. is
a music artist to look out for. The main image is
of T.I. He is represented as a gangster as his
hands are held together in front of his body which
suggest T.I. means business and is well involved
with the music industry. He is also giving the

magazine is both genders as the music

artist shown on the front could be
appealing to women however the
background colours may associated the
magazine to be more for males, Due to
using the colours blue and black. The
target age group for the VIBE magazine is
18-28 years old as the content featured in
the magazine is appropriate for young
adults and not so much teenagers. The
socio economic group of VIBEs target
audience is C to E as students of 18
would be in group E. Also at 28 years
some of the target audience would be in
a class higher; so would be in the group

Institution- Vibe was

Genre- the genre of

founded by producer
Quincy Jones, he launched
Vibe in 1993. Quincy Jones
is a composer and record
producer. Vibe is currently
owned by InterMedia
Partners which is privately
equity. InterMedia partners
will influence the content of
the rest of the magazine as
they focus on all media
platform such as TV, radio,
newspapers, internet etc.
This would mean the
magazine will feature more
of a variety of articles than
others which would make

the magazine is music.

I can tell this because
there is T.I. a music
artist as the main
image. Also around the
main image there are
straplines which tell
you about other music
artists (such as Jay-Z
and Keri Hilson) who
will be featured in the
magazine. So this
supports the genre of
the magazine. This
targets the audience as
they may see the music
artists featured in the

Language- The main image of T.I. is

placed in the centre of the magazine front
cover which focuses the audiences attention
directly on him first. The main image
portrays the gangster image as you can tell
by the posture and facial expression of T.I.
The hat he is wearing also portrays the
gangster image due to the style of the hat
and the way he is wearing it to the side. This
may affect the audience as they may see
him as cool and a good role model which
would make them want to buy and read the
magazine. The dark blue/black background
and the bold red and white writing behind
T.I. could show that the magazine is aimed at
an older audience of 18-28 years as the
