Cy Lowery wrote about his early experiences using computers. In kindergarten, he would play games on his mother's laptop, enjoying the activity even if he didn't understand it. As he grew older, he used computers more in school, such as taking AR tests after reading books. The class where he used computers the most was his keyboarding class. In 5th grade, his teacher began using PowerPoint for lessons, finding it helped students learn visually. Lowery believes technology and computers have enhanced his literacy over time.

The first time that I ever used a computer was before I ever went to Kindergarten. I used to play on my moms laptop all the time. I never really understood what I was doing but I always thought that it was fun. As the years went on I used computers more and more in school, the main reason to test tests on the books that I had read for my AR points. The class in which I used the computer the most was in my keyboarding class. The first time I was introduced to PowerPoint was my fifth grade year. Our teacher used to have a PowerPoint for each lesson that we learned because she felt like if we could see it we could learn it better. I think technology through computers and PowerPoint has really helped my literacy narrative over time.
