Description:
The above photographs show evidence of how the room was arranged for the Saturday Creative Art first
grade class. The room was set up to match the lesson on Early Man and Cave Art. It was set up into two
sections. In the first section there was a center unit where four tables with three chairs per table pushed
up against a larger and taller center table. The next section was in the back right of the room where we
had set up crinkled brown paper to cover the walls and then hung brown paper from the ceiling in a
semicircle in order to resemble a cave. There were posters and pictures of Early Man and Cave Art hung
all over the room and set along the paper covered tables on the back wall. There was one table located
in the left of the room, out of the way of students attention, which had materials set aside for the
projects.
Rationale:
The room was arranged in a way to help facilitate learning and focusing within the classroom. The tables
that the students worked were in a circular formation so that I could circumambulate around them,
accessing each student while still being able to look up and see the rest of the class. The students were
facing each other in order to encourage discussion and keep their focus away from the materials, on the
back wall, that were not being used. The left side of the room was lined with brown tables with
materials set for other sections of the lesson. Dividing the room helped to focus students attention and
to keep them interested in what they were learning. In the front of the room we had to projector and
computer which was isolated from the rest of the room so as to indicate it was used for the teachers
purposes only. The sides with the sinks were left clean and open for utilization. This was all done
purposefully to best contribute to the students success within this classroom by helping them focus on
the task and reinforce the learning objectives
