Literacy Connections Larger than Life

1. I think that the purpose of this essay is to talk about heroes, how theyve
changed, as well as become educated on how important they are to our
society. Everyone, no matter the age, needs a hero. Real or not, famous or
average, a hero is whoever you want them to be.
2. Disillusionment with heroes. That is something that we have to be aware of.
This is something that the media has control over. The media has the ability
to slur our heroes and people that we look up to. The bad things that our
heros do is commonly pointed out to us and our hero isnt as good as we
once thought them to be.
3. I think that our ideas and view of people are much different than what they
used to be. I think that social media and a combination of other things have
made us a very judging race. The speed that information travels is
astounding. We idolize the wrong people in my opinion. There are so many
people idolized that havent done anything for the world. Meanwhile, theres
many other people that are selfless and doing more for the world than for
themselves.
4. My heroes are more real than fake. This is probably because I prefer to know
that things have really happened than just assume. I enjoy knowing that
these people are making a difference and thats why theyre my role models.
My Grandpa real
George Washington real
Elliot Hulse real
Jay Gatsby not real
My Father real
5. We can critically read these people by not only listening to what they say, but
by researching what they have done. For example, you can learn about what
George Washington said and did in his lifetime or you can do what Ive done
and read a biography about him. I now know more about George
Washingtons character than ever and respect him because he had a drive to
get things done.
