War on Terror

The War on Terror is not a new crusade. Wars have been going on since the dawn of
time; it is human nature to disagree. As people coexist with contrasting views, wars are bound to
occur. The most recent attacks have resulted from political conflict with underlying religious
ties. It is important to note that every religious conflict is not a crusade. The Crusades were
historic disputes that were not just a disagreement over views, but a series of brutal battles over
the Holy Land. The War on Terror was declared for protection and prevention of terrorist
attacks. Acts defense against terrorism are not a Crusade. Despite the fact some terrorists are
Muslims the War on Terror is not a religious war against the Muslims. The War on Terror is just
that, a war against terrorist and a result of politics. The Crusades were wars over the Holy Land
and strictly religious. It could be argued that a war between a primarily Christian nation and
primarily Islamic nation is a Crusade. I disagree with this statement for two main reasons. One,
the nations are not fighting over possession of the Holy Land like in the other Crusades. Two, the
war is not over religion alone and religion is not the primary cause of the war. A website by the
name of Global Issues offers an outside perspective to all I have just stated. It validates my claim
by talking about the United States and its many acts against terrorist. The article never states
anything involving religion and does not say that the United States waged war against the
Muslim community in any way, shape, or form. The Metropolitan Museum discusses all of the
Crusades. The only common factor between the Crusades is the fact the battles are over
possession of the Holy Land. The United States is not attempting to seize Jerusalem. In
conclusion, the War on Terror is not a new Crusade.
