TUTORIAL SHEET 03
1. Three forces F1, F2 and F3 are acting on bracket AB at point B. F1 is the force
exerted by an elastic band with stiffness k = 2 N/mm. The elastic band is attached
to a slider C that can move horizontally on the rail D. The resultant of the 3 forces
has a magnitude of 600 N is directed along the positive x'-axis.
[a] Calculate the elongation of the elastic band in the position shown.
[b] Calculate the angle [measured from the x'-axis].

2. Use the dot product concept to calculate the angle between the 550 N Force
and line BC.

3. Little Boyet took off in his rocket with a velocity of V = 755 km/hr and an angle
of = 35 from the horizontal at exactly 12 noon. How fast is his shadow travelling
on the ground?
