Macbeth Study
Act 2, Scenes 1 and 2: Lady Macbeth took over the control of the murder once Macbeth
became shocked of his action. She went back to make sure that the scene was set to place
blame on the guards. She disregards her husbands fears and calls him weak while
assuring him that they wont get in trouble. She seems very detached and insensitive
throughout scene 1 and 2. I think that she may not have wanted to kill Duncan herself
because if worse comes to worse, she will be accused and Macbeth will be punished.
Act 2, Scenes 3 and 4:

I can imagine the scene when Duncan is discovered. The blood covered the
guards and their bewildered expressions at Macbeths accusations. Then theres

Macbeths false rage that lead him to kill them instantly.

In the beginning of the act, Macbeth is nervous with his answers. He becomes
confident when his lies are bought and the blame is placed on the guards. He then
kills them so they are unable to defend themselves. Now that there are no loose
ends, he feels calm again. I believe he shouldnt be able to feel confident and calm
after killing Duncan because he did it out of greed.

Act 3, Scenes 1-3: Macbeth is discontent with being king because the witches also said
that Banquos children will be the future kings. Macbeth wants the crown to be passed
down through his family so he now has to kill Banquo and his son. Lady Macbeth is

discontent because of Macbeths attitude after Duncans death. She thinks that he is still
moping about his actions while he is really planning another murder.
Act 3, Scenes 4-6: Macbeth is seeing the dagger and Banquo because he is guilty. He
feels guilty for the things that hes done and the fear of getting caught haunts him. He is
also haunted by the fact that Banquos son is still alive and it is highly possible that he
will be found out.
