Task 9 Proposal:

A Summary:
From my research I have found that readers of music magazines are interested in who the main
focus of that issue are. They are also to be up-to-date with the latest artists, music; apps etc.
teenagers will not be interested if the article has no relevance to the modern day music scene. Each
magazine that gets published has its own style, they do not copy other magazines and they do all
they can to stand out against the others in order to sell. They use these differences as their selling
point, even though all magazines have to follow similar codes and conventions such as having a
masthead and coverlines. They need to be able to catch a readers eye from a distance, whether that
is from the main image or the main coverline. If they dont, teenagers will not be that interested in
buying your magazine.

My Proposal:
My magazine is going to be of the Pop Genre. This is because I have a keen interest in pop music
and I can relate to it a lot. With this in mind, a pop music magazine is ideal for me to create as I know
a lot about the selected genre and it will be easier for me to put my knowledge into making it about
pop than another genre like Rap/Hip-Hop where I have no interest in this genre.
The title of the magazine I wish to produce is Pop World, I was going to use The Mix however I
didnt think that it would be appropriate for my magazine title. Pop World represents that the
magazine will focus completely on Pop music and it can be a teenagers go-to magazine for all things
pop music.
The Target Audience that my magazine will be aimed at is white-British females aged between 13
and 16. This age range seems like an acceptable one to aim at since it is mainly those ages that take
an interest in musicians like Boy Bands and other solo artists. My results from my questionnaire
show to me that this is an ideal age range and gender preference this does not mean that males
cannot read my magazine; it just means that I am not specifically aiming it towards them.
My initial ideas for my front cover is to have it laid out in a brightly pink/red colour scheme that
stereotypically attracts teenage girls. I will also have the main image of preferably a band still
unsure. This will be the main focus of the issue of the magazine and will hopefully attract the
audiences attention. The masthead will sit at the top of the page, almost acting like the header, and
will be clear to see. I will be aiming to have all the coverlines run down the left-hand side of the page
with the main coverline standing out on the right hand side with the main image located behind it.
The contents page will include the coverlines plus other stories that may interest the reader. It will
also include things like a Q&A with an artist. There will be images on the contents page, which I will
take as well as ones of actual celebrities that would be from online, unless I use images from
concerts I have attended. The Masthead will be placed in the top corner with the date line and issue
number as part of the generic conventions of a magazine.

My double-page spread will include photos and an interview with an upcoming artist still to be
decided this is the main focus of the magazine and will hopefully be eye-catching to the
readers/target audience.
My idea for images is that they will be Medium long shots, especially for the front cover. I will also
use and manipulate images of celebrities as they will be used on the cover and contents as selling
points. The use of images allows a target audience to get a feel of the artist that is featured and will
allow them to decide if they want to read the article or not.
