I asked this question on my

questionnaire to see what the ideal
gender would be to aim at for the
Target Audience for my magazine. Out
of the 17 people I gave my
questionnaire to, 11 of them were
female, 6 were male. This was not
that badly affecting of my results in
general as I was allowed to get an
idea of what both male and female
genders liked or disliked about Pop
magazines. For my magazine, I am
looking to aim it at a mainly female
audience but I will make sure there
are elements available for a male
aspect.

I asked this question so I was able to

find out an average age of people who
read music magazines. The outcome
of average ages from the people I
questioned was from 13 to 18 with a
total of 75% of the people I asked
being that age. This gives me a look at
an average age group to aim my
magazine at, I know not to use that
much sophisticated language as that
is not what they will be interested in
and for them it could be seen as an
easy read. For this question, I feel
like I gave difficult options to mark for
the ages as the age of 18 was on two
boxes, therefore I couldve done a
different answering method or age
range grouping.

I asked this question to find out the

preferred genre of the people taking
the questionnaire. The results shows
that the preferred genre to listen to
was Pop music with 13 votes. This
works in my favour and I could ask the
rest of the people questions based on a
general magazine and I still have a
large propor tion of answers for a Pop
magazine. This means that both male
and females are interested in the pop
genre and I can use this information to
aim my magazine at both genres
instead of the stereotypical girly
magazines that are already published.
For my magazine I am thinking of
making my magazine appealing to a
mainly feminine eye but it will have a
few factor s that will have a masculine
influence .

I asked a general question for How of ten

do you buy a magazine? The results came
back that the majority, 8, said they
bought it For tnightly. This suggests that
people prefer to buy for tnightly than
weekly. With this information I would use
this to say that my magazine would be on
sale with a new issue ever y two -weeks.
For my target audience, it shows that
teenagers are not that interested in
weekly magazines and they enjoy reading
them ever y now and again. This question
does not af fect my genre in any way but it
is an impor tant piece of information to
have when structuring the magazine and
the publishing to use it to an advantage
to be able to get product sales.

I asked the question How much are

you willing to pay for a magazine?
to get an estimate of the average
teenager is prepared to spend on
buying a magazine. The average
was 1 but 1 .50 was also a
popular price. However, this was not
a very helpful as I do not think I can
not sell a decent magazine for that
price. I will use my results to find a
price that I will sell my magazine
for a certain price where it is of a
decent price for my target audience
to be able to purchase my
magazine. I asked this question so
that I could find out the price of a
magazine that I could sell my
magazine for and that the target
audience will be able to purchase it
themselves.

The sixth question I asked was If you

were to buy a Pop Magazine, Would
you prefer to have a Male Solo Artist,
a Female Solo Artist, a Girl Group or
a Boy Band on the cover? By asking
this question I was able to come to a
conclusion about what the people I
questioned would prefer to see on
the magazine cover. The majority
vote was tied for a boyband or a
female artist on the cover. This has
given me the impression that people
prefer seeing boybands like one
direction or union j on a magazine
cover than groups like little mix or
solo artists like Olly Murs.

The sixth question I asked was about the

attraction to the magazines they read. I
wanted to find out what caught their
attention to the magazines so that I
could use this to include it on my
magazine. The majority was split
between the stories that are going to be
inside and ar tists featured on the cover.
This has indicated to me how I am to
ensure the stories that are inside will
get featured and there will be coverlines
on the front cover that will allow the
target audience to be intrigued in the
magazine. I will also use their input from
one of my other questions to make sure
the ideal ar tists will be featured on the
cover in order to gain their attention so
that I can use this to potentially sell my
magazine.

COLOUR SCHEME?
I wanted to know what the people I
gave the questionnaire to were
interested in with a colour scheme
for a pop magazine. I only gave
them two choices, this was because
they were the main two colour
schemes that I had an interest in
for the specific genre. They were
also the colours I decided would
look good on the layout. 13 out of
17 people selected the pink/red
colour scheme over the blues and
purples. Personally I prefer this
selection and Im happy it got the
majority vote. I think the pinks are
a perfect example of a stereotyped
pop magazine, one I can find my
own magazine fitting into.

where the posters and freebies,
therefore I will use these to
possibly include in the magazine/on

each. Due to this, I will ensure my
articles are well written and are
about artists that I think the
readers will be interested in as well
as including photo-shoots from
well-known artists.c

When asking this question, I wanted

to form an idea of the type of

giving me the impression that they
listen to a to of boybands. Also, Olly
Murs and Ed Sheeran sought to be
popular. With this information, I will
base my artist on them and their

to have posters of and cover -lines of
on my cover to grab the target
audiences attention.

From reading magazines myself, I know that

adver ts in a magazine get annoying, but I
was interested to see the type of
adver tisements people would actually like
to look at in a music magazine. Popular
choice is Tour promotion, assuming this is
because the target audience want to know
when their favourite ar tist is coming to their
area. I will use this to possibly have
upcoming tour dates somewhere within the
magazine to inform the readers. Beauty
Products and Games were also popular, with
this upcoming releases of games and
makeup from people favourite vloggers or
brands could be adver tised. I would do this
to get an insight on what the target
audience like aside from pop music and it
could draw in a dif ferent type of audience
than what is normally seen for a pop music
magazine.

The 13 th question I asked was Which

magazines, of those specified, do you
already read? As the majority of the
people I asked were pop fans it was
no surprise that We Love Pop and
TOTP were the two most read
magazines. I will use these two
magazines to get inspiration on the
layout, colour schemes, and artists
featured on the front cover to put into
my own magazine. I asked this
question so that I was able to know
what magazines Ill be able to take
influence from. Having read Top of The
Pops and We Love Pop before, I found
this easy to be able to relate to.

I was interested to see where these

people purchased their music from.
To do this I used an open question.
The open question allowed people to
either tick the box of where they got
it from or to say where if not included
on the list. Saying that, only one
per son didnt get it from one of the
options on the list, due to them not
getting any. Asking this question
allowed me to create an image of my
own target audience, people got their
music through iTunes or the ar tists
site. This proves that my target
audience should be of a standard
class as with iTunes its typical to
own an apple device which are not
the cheapest. Also the fact they get
some via the ar tists of ficial store,
proves they are dedicated to the
ar tist themselves.

In the 21 st century many things can

now be done online; magazines are
within this. Previous magazines like
Sugarscape stopped publishing an
actual magazine and has turned into
a very popular online site that
publish new articles as soon as they
become popular. I was interested to
see how many of the 17 I questioned
actually brought the physical copies
of magazines or read the online
versions or just browed the
magazines website, such as
SugarScape. Luckily for my
research, 12/17 still buy the
physical copy of the magazine. So by
publishing a magazine, it would not
go into liquidation straight away
because people do still purchase
actual magazines.
