MATHEMATICS PROJECT FOR ALL CLASSES

AREA CALCULATOR

In this project you will find a very special tool for calculating

area of any two dimensional figure made from straight lines. The

figure is generated on the geometric board and by counting the

numbers of node we can calculate the area of the figure. There is no

condition on convex or concave figures. The formula used is only one

for all the figures.

M
Area = + ( N − 1)
2

Where M = Numbers of node on the side of the figure

N= Numbers of the nodes in the figure.

Example: - In the given figure we have a right triangle with base 4

units and height 6 units. There for area of the triangle by our ordinary

formula is as below:-

1
Area of triangle = X Base X Height
2

1
= X 4X6
2

= 12 squire units

But by using the above formula we have the number of node on the

side of the figure is 12 and Number of nodes inside the figure is 7.

Therefore using the above easy formula area of the triangle is given as

below:-

M
Area = + ( N − 1)
2

12
Area of the triangle is = + ( 7 − 1)
2

=6 + 6

= 12 squire units

Hence in this method we find the same result. It is very useful tool for

calculating area of any figure.

Example: - In this figure we can find the area by counting the nodes

on the side and in the figure.

Here M=16 (No. of nodes on the sides)

N=25(No. of nodes inside the fig.)

Therefore the area of the fig. according to above said formula

16
Area of the triangle is = + ( 25 − 1)
2

=8 + 24

= 32 squire units
