Introduction and Aim

Over head lifting gentry is a suited structure to move heavy loads over long distances
specially in Industries, that heavy loads could be moved easily in the working area.
As a way of helping the mechanical engineering students in their third year at Bahrain Polytechnic, it
was required to design an overhead lifting gantry for building 30, the building they will take a sport
car project, by designing a single overhead beam which will hold the lifting mechanism, and the side
beams along that will roll the overhead beam.
The first step of designing the gantry was by measuring up the buildings length and width to decide
which size the designed beam should be. And by doing some calculation to find two suitable
standard beams, so we can design our own beam that should be strong with less material which
means less cost.

Apparatus
By measuring up the buildings length and width which were 19.75m and 14.20m respectively, our
design will be with a length of 18m and 12m width, because it shouldnt be very close to the walls
and doors.
It was chosen to have 7 columns in the side beams to make the design stronger and the distance
between each column was 3m.
