Depth of Field

By Aimee Gibbs

What is Depth of Field?

Depth of Field in photography terms is the distance between the nearest and
the furthest objects giving a focused image.

Depth of field is used to make the photo more appealing by using different
focuses. It can make it more interesting.

What is Aperture?

Aperture in photography terms is a space through which light passes in an

optical or photographic instrument, especially the variable opening by which
light enters a camera

Aperture is good because it sets a scene in the photo.

The bigger the aperture the bigger the depth of field.

The bigger the aperture, the more light you let in.

You can change the aperture on the DSLR cameras, changing the aperture on
the camera makes the depth of field different.

Depth Of Field example

In this photo there is focus on

one colour and the rest is out
of focus.

Problems

A photo with a large Depth of Field can suffer from camera shake because the
shutter speed is slow and it takes long to take the image.

It also might be too dark because there was a small aperture which might not
let enough light meaning that its too dark.
