1. THESIS STATEMENT

Present the projects argument or interpretation in two sentences. If you are using the NHD theme, you might want to make it
evident in your thesis statement.

Steven Spielberg has made a huge impact socially, economically and in the film industry. Steven Spielberg
basically created the PG-13 category and made people think and feel on a deeper level, while watching his
movies.

2. SUMMARY OF PROJECT

Briefly explain your project and its conclusion. Include: How and why did change happen and what was the impact? Why is
it historically significant? What historical meaning or importance can we learn from your findings?

My project was on Steven Spielberg. I was researching to prove that Steven Spielberg did in fact make an
impact socially, economically, and on the film industry. He had impact because he started different programs and
things to help people understand the holocaust, he made a lot of money for different things and foundation, and
he also changed the way we view movies today. We can find that the movies we watch are all possible because
of the movies that Spielberg made.

3. Required for projects using the National History Day theme only.

Explain how this project integrates the NHD theme Leadership & Legacy in [Chicago/Illinois] History into its argument.
Hes left his legacy (even though hes not yet dead) in a very different way. The movies that hes film, produced, directed,
etc. are the movies that have shaped the way that movies are made today. We wouldnt be able to go out on a nice
Saturday evening and go see the movies that we enjoy watching because they make us think, feel, and we feel like were in
the movie. None of that would be possible if Spielberg wouldnt have come to the film industry with a fresh new look and
brand new ideas of what movies can actually be.

4. PROCESS
A. What historical question did you start off withand how did it change once you began doing
your research?
How did Steven Spielberg make an impact on the film industry? I knew I couldnt just focus on one
thing he did because then I wouldve gotten bored. So the more I researched Steven Spielberg I
found out that hes made more of an impact than just on the film industry. Thats when I tweaked it
and added how did Steven Spielberg make an impact on the film industry, socially and economically.

B. What kinds of sources did you use as evidence to develop your argument (for example,
letters, photographs, government documents, interviews, etc.)? I used websites, biographies,
articles, etc.

C. Select one piece of evidence that you used and explain how it influenced your argument.
The website of the foundation that Steven Spielberg started.
