Where Minds Can Grow!

January 23, 2015

This Week

It has been a jam-packed, busy week! For theme

we have learned all about Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr. We began our study by answering a
smartboard Q Do you know who Dr. MLK is? We
read a book about his life and work each day! On
Friday we did a little experiment with two eggs (a
brown one and a white one), noting the differences
between the two, but when we cracked them open,
they were exactly the same on the inside!!! Just
like us, we are all different colors, but we are all
the same on the inside. They love it! I was amazed
at how the kids picked up on Dr. Kings mission of
LOVE, not hate! They have been my first class to
really grasp that concept! I was proud of them!
During our shared reading time, weve been reading
100th day books in celebration of our 100th day this
past Wednesday! We have created 100 bubblegum
machines, completed a 100th day book (in your
Friday folder today), transformed ourselves into
100 year old people, put together 100 items for our
100th day snack, and also made 100 fruit loop
necklaces!
Last but not least, Miss Dykes, our AU intern,
joined us on Tuesday! We are so blessed to have
her and shes done fabulously her first week!

Next Week

Sloth construction was a bit slow this week due to

the 100th day festivitiesbut you can check out our
progress on the blog! We will continue
construction next week. During construction of
any animal, we do not begin a new animal until it is
complete!
For shared reading, we are going to be spending a
couple of weeks reading fairy tales AND working
on letter/sound correspondence. This was an area
of weakness from our report cards for a large
majority of our friends.

Homework Questions!

Weve had some confusion about our homework

questions in our planner. These tasks are to help
both YOU and your child become better prepared
for 1st grade! I hope you find them fun and
meaningful and you enjoy spending that time with
your child each evening!

Emergency Cards
Weve had a lot of number and email address
changes since returning from Christmas, I am
sending home a new emergency card for you to fill
out and return on Monday!

Have a wonderful weekend!
