What Were Learning
Reading:
!Every morning during our reading block we will be
doing the Daily 5. We are continuing to work on
Read to Self. We have increased our stamina to
9 minutes! Our goal is 15 minutes ".
!We continued to talk about the 3 ways to read a
book: 1) Read the pictures, 2) Read the words, or
3) Retell a familiar story.
!We are working on learning all of the letters of the
alphabet and the sounds they make. This week we
focused on H-L.
!We began our unit about friendship. We read the
books Yo! Yes! and My Friend Is Sad. The
students noticed that we read words in different
ways depending on how theyre written (they may
be in all capital letters or written really small).
Math:
+ We practiced creating visual images in our heads
and then we applied that to drawing images.
+ We reviewed Annos Counting Book to count
groups of objects and made our own pages with
scenes to represent numbers 4 & 5.
+ We introduced adding and subtracting.
Writers Workshop:
! We began putting our true stories from our lives
down onto paper in our Writing Notebooks like real
authors.
! We practiced making capital letters using our
special wood pieces and sky writing them.
