*Math games - Monster Squeeze (this game is linked to the blog: www.1dkids.blogspot.com for some at-home practice) and Bunny Hop (this game is part of the Thursday Papers ask me to play it with you!) *What Letter is it? We are reviewing the short vowel sounds so far we have made words with the letters a, e, and i! We added Word Work to Readers Workshop - we used tiles to spell words from these word families: -ed, -et, -en, and -ell. *Our spelling show what you know assessment - we had 18 words, plus a dictation sentence! *Morning Warm-ups - these start of day jobs get our brains ready to begin the day - we always begin by lling in our weather graphs, writing the number of days in school, and marking off the days on the calendar. *Our rst read aloud chapter book - Homework Hassles from the Ready Freddy! book series. Our current read aloud is Stink - Solar System Superhero. *Counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, and (of course!) 1s. We have also been thinking about the concept of more than and less than. We played Addition Top-It to practice this concept. *Morning Meeting greetings and activities - recent favorites include the Brown Bear greeting, the game Hot or Cold, and the activity Still as a Rock. *Why Writers Write - we brainstormed a list of reasons why writers write and we wrote I can... mini-books. **Learning to write the numbers the rst grade way - no sailboat 4s or cursive 2s! *Using upper case letters to begin sentences and periods or question marks to end sentences. We are trying to remember...NO upper case letters in the middle of a word! *The short way to write the date (9-6-12). *My hopes and dreams for rst grade. *Building stamina during Read-to-Self. We extend our independent reading time a bit each day!
