What Were Learning
Reading:
!We continued to introduce components of the Daily
5. We can now do Read to Self successfully for 14
minutes. We also introduced Work on Writing and
are beginning to build our stamina for this.
!We talked about how good readers think while they
read. We documented our thinking onto sticky
notes while Mrs. Flohr read The Art Lesson by
Tomie dePaola.
!We are working on learning all of the letters of the
alphabet and the sounds they make. This week we
focused on M-P.
!We sorted pictures of animals and pictures of
things that were not animals.
Math:
+ We learned how to write the number 1.
+ We continued to practice adding and subtracting.
+ We practiced drawing big and small circles.
Writers Workshop:
! We read stories written by kindergartners just like
us. We are now fearless to write words and draw
pictures the best we can!
! We learned how to add detail to our pictures.
! We began writing the letters F, E, D, and P in our
handwriting workbooks.
Social Studies:
! We talked about how we are the same and
different.
! We drew pictures of things that we care about.

know the words. They can read the pictures or retell the story. Practice this at home to help
build confidence and motivation for reading!
