Little White Lies Magazine Analysis

Little White Lies is an independent film magazine publisher that is recognisable for its
iconic illustrations and photography. The status of the item itself is closely relatable to
our main product: both are independent features with niche audiences and unique styles.
The logos above show this form of advertising, with the heading being appropriate to
distribute accordingly. Whilst one is simply an overall logo for the company (right) the
other is used for specific publications (hence the barcode.)
The image shown is an example of a published Little
White Lies magazine (depicting a recent additional
inspiration in our production.) The style of this
magazine displays the standard conventions of the
publishers, with the main star being placed
symmetrically within the frame of the front cover
sheet. The main reason for this choice is due to its
unique design, with features incorporated to preserve
its look and therefore create a contrast to such other
products. This promotes a focus on characters and
narrative, which is a sample of indie cinema,
compared to the iconography and scale often seen on
a magazine like Empire. We adopted this as an
influence in our production in order to convey the
character Luca in finer detail for the viewer;
established further through the presence of filters to
emphasise its effect. The purpose primarily of such a
text is to advertise and distribute succeeding the
films release (or prior to it.)
