Valentines Day Cards

25 Points (Formative Category)


Write a message for each student. You must create a message that uses each of the following
literary devices. First, define each of the terms and write your messages on this document
first. Submit this work to the Dropbox. Then, you can make the cards. The cards you create
do not have to be elaborate. You can make several on a sheet of paper (on MS Word), cut, and
distribute.
Use each device at least once. Once you use each device, you can repeat the message for
another student.

Metaphor: Comparing 2 unlike things without using like or as

Hyperbole : Exaggeration
o You set my heart on fire
Iambic Pentameter : unstressed then stressed 5 iambs
o You are the best person around you know
Iambic Tetrameter : unstressed stressed 4 iambs
o You are the smartest and coolest
Couplet : 2 consecutive lines of rhyme
o You are nice smelling
o Youre so amazing theres no telling
Alliteration: Same sounds at the beginning
o You always are amazing
Assonance: Repetition of Vowels
o Again you are Awesome
Consonance : repetition of consonants
o If I dont borrow your heart I will sorrow
Enjambment : consecutive lines without punctuation
o I love you more then life
o And more then anything
Internal rhyme: Rhyme that occurs in one line or verse
o You are cool and you rule
Onomatopoeia : sound effects
o You make my heart go Boom
Imagery : sensory details

o Your eyes shine brightly like the stars.

Write a card for each student in Mr. Haass class. You may want
to include a treat for your new fourth grade friends with your
card.
