Art O f the Week: Paul Revere?s Engraving of the Boston M assacre ?

T he Bloody
M assacre on K ing Street M arch 5, 1770.?
Paul Revere?s engraving of the Boston M assacre shows soldiers firing at a peaceful crowd.
Breaking N ews: Colonists were angry because British soldiers were living in their
homes. Colonists called the British soldiers lobster backs because they had lobsterbacks.
A British soldier was guarding the customs house which is where all the taxes are
collected. An argument between a British soldier and some colonists broke out at the
customs house and the conversation rose up. Soon a mob of fifty colonists surrounded
the British soldier. T hey started to throw rocks, sticks, and snow at the soldiers. T homas
Preston got to the scene with 8 men. Soldiers shot into the crowd killing 4 men.
T hirteen people were arrested.. Including eight British soldiers one officer and four
civilians.

Weather R eport: O n this fateful night called the Boston M assacre, it was a little chilly
and cold. T here was also some wind to add on to the cold. T he day week before, there
was some ice and snow.
Laws: T he trial will take place this year. John Adams is claimed to be the judge. It will
take place in two weeks, and not quite sure if it will be open to the public. If it is not we
will make sure that presses are on top of the trial. We have interviewed a loyalist and a
patriot to get their opinion on the trial and what is happening in Boston. We have to say
that they are quite different, but we thank them for their time with us...

Guilty or N ot?: We interviewed a loyalist (H enry Smith) who was willing to give his
opinion on what was happening, and we must say their perspective is extremely different.
T his is what he had to say, ?T he behavior of these colonist was despicable, and they
should be worshipping the king? Smith said, ?M any of our soldiers died too, but they
only want to have a trial against us, like we were the only people whom killed!?. We
thank H enry for his opinion. We also interviewed a patriot (Jack Wright). H e said that he
thought it was the soldiers fault for being startled. T hey should be used to getting hit by
colonists.
