Wood in products

Recycled wood
Gate fees for high grade wood averaged 17.5 per tonne
in October 2014, no change from prices in September
2014. This represents an increase of 2.5 per tonne
compared to fees in October last year.
In October 2014 the average gate fee for low grade wood
was 55 per tonne, unchanged from prices in the previous
month. Gate fees are now 15 per tonne higher than they
were in October 2013.

In 2014Q2, the amount of wood packaging reprocessed in

the UK amounted to 104k tonnes

High quality wood for recycling or reuse

Solid wood such as pallets, wood crates, broken solid wood
furniture can be recycled and potentially re-used.

Lower quality wood

Chipboard, MDF and laminate are more difficult materials to
find recycled markets for. However, there is increasing capacity
for the recovery of wood to produce energy, which is a more
sustainable outcome than landfilling.
