Problem No. 4
A coil has an inductance of 0.1 h and a resistance of 30 at 20C. Calculate (a) the
current; (b) the power taken from 100-V, 50 Hz mains when their temperature of the coil is
60C, assuming the temperature coefficient of resistance to be 0.4% per C from a basic
temperature of 20C.
Solution:
L = 0.1 H
E = 100-V
F = 50 Hz
R20C = 30
Temperature coefficient of resistance = 0.4%
60C - 20C = 40C
40C (4x10-3) = 0.16
R60C = R20C + 0.16R20C
R60C = 30 + 0.16(30)
R60C = 34.8

I=
I = 2.133 A, Ans.
b) P = I2R60C
P = (2.133)2(34.8)
P= 158.329 W, Ans.
XL = 2fL
XL = 2 (50)(0.1)
XL = 31.416
