Sentence Parts

The subject (un sujet) is the person or thing performing the action, and
the predicate (un prdicat) is the rest of the sentence, which usually
beings with the verb
La jeune fille est mignonne. The young girl is cute.
Subject: la jeune fille the young girl
Predicate: est mignonne is cute
Sentence Types
There are four types of sentences: statements, exclamatives,
interrogatives, and commands
Statements- phrase assertive or phrase dclarative
Usually state something
There are two subcategories of statements:
Affirmative statements les phrases (dclaratives) affirmatives
Je suis fatigu. I am tired.
Negative statements les phrases (dclaratives) ngatives
Je ne suis pas fatigu. I am not tired.
Exclamative- phrase exclamative
Express strong reactions, they are similar to sentences except they
have an exclamation point
Je veux y aller!- I want to go!
Interrogative- phrase interrogative
Questions, ask for or about something
O est-il? Where is he?
Command- phrase imprative
Only kind of sentence without an explicit subject, instead the subject is
implied by the conjugation of the verb
Faites la vaisselle. Do the dishes.
