Five-Year Plan

I.

LONG TERM GOAL (aka. what I want to be when I grow up)

a. When, what age, or what year, do you hope to achieve
this status?
b.What skills, talents, and education are required to meet
this goal?

My long-term goal is to own a successful interior design company.

I hope to achieve this goal within 5-10 years. In order to achieve my
goal I will need to graduate with my associates, join the workforce
gaining over 7,000 hours of work. By that point I will then be able to
take the NCIQ to receive my Interior Design License. I will need that
license in order to open my showroom in Georgetown, Washington D.C.
Above education this will also require my own personal skills and
talents, which will be gained throughout schooling and working.

II.

BRAINSTORMING
a. 28.1 Personal Goals Exercise (modify items 9&10
to fit your situation)
28. 2 (5.3 on Blackboard) Professional Goals
Questionnaire

b. Describe your ideal interior design businessone

you would like to run or one in which you would like
to participate.
c. What would you like for your career to contribute to
the practice of interior design?
d. What other goals do you have for your interior
design career?

My ideal interior design business will be bringing people

together through spaces. Designing for both residential and small
commercial spaces. I will eventually design my own furniture and have
a beautiful showroom starting in Georgetown. My creations will be
sleek and clean while still creating a boosting mood in the people
around. I hope to inspire people by contributing through my creative
thinking and space planning. Other goals that I have to contribute to
my interior design career include learning as much as I can from other
striving interior designers like myself in order to successfully run my
business while growing at the same time. Preferably a limited liability
company (LLC) because an LLC can be treated as a sole proprietor,
partnership, C-Corporation, or an S-Corporation. Meaning that I will be
able to pick which tax treatment applies. In order to maintain my
necessities, comforts, and luxuries, I will be compensated with my own

choice of work hours and salary. I should be picked to work for this type
of organization because I am ambitious, courageous, and
independent.
III.

HISTORY
a. What made you decided that this is the career for
you?
b. Prior education, life experiences, and job
experiences brought you to this point
Everyday after school starting around 3rd grade, I would come

home and play a computer game named The Sims. The point of the
game was to create people, design their home, and basically live and
grow old. I would always design my people in the town and really only
cared about their homes. I have spent hours behind the computer
screen creating beautiful homes for my Sims town, learning codes to
gain more money to build bigger homes or buy nicer things. As I grew
older, The Sims games evolved to where I could build retail shops, or
movie theaters. I later grew out of the computer game searching for a
good major for myself. I went from business to graphic design, which
later brought me to interior design. I then took a few classes where I
really fell in love with what I could eventually bring to the table. I was
very inspired listening to other interior designers or throughout
projects I had to learn more about designers and their work.

IV.

STATEMENT OF MY CURRENT POSITION IN LIFE

a. Personal and Professional
Personally I feel as if I am on the correct personal and

professional path. I know what I want which is helpful so I can pave my

own road towards my goals. It has taken me a while to get to the point
I am at with my goals and ideas but I am excited to keep working
towards them. I know the route to receive my diploma as well as my
license, which will help guide me towards my dreams of owning my
successful interior design company.
