HIGH SCHOOL

of
Excellence
February 2, 2015
Karin Hillman has held the position of school counseling intern for the 2014 2015 school year. During her
time, Karin has gained exposure to many facets of school counseling. In addition, Karin was afforded the
opportunity to implement her skills in all three school settings elementary, middle and high school.
Karins responsibilities included running lunch bunch groups for elementary students, teaching classroom
guidance to promote a healthier school climate, and developing rapport with students on an individual basis. In
order to successfully learn other responsibilities, Karin has spent time learning the DASL student software,
gaining an understanding of scheduling, grading periods and other administrative tasks. Her dedication to her
role has been above and beyond expectations. Karin has attended committee meetings for United Way, she has
helped with career and college readiness field trips to the Auburn Career Center, and has participated on the
Intervention Assistance Team to develop strategies for struggling students.
These assignments demonstrate how capable Karin is, and how she can implement the skills learned through her
education. What they dont tell you is how talented Karin is. She has an innate ability to grasp concepts quickly
and is able to juggle all of her responsibilities while making good judgment decisions. She definitely has what
it takes to be a successful school counselor, and any school would be fortunate to have Karin Hillman as a
member of staff.
