2015 IVY SPORTS SYMPOSIUM

Planning Committee Application


The Ivy Sports Symposium is seeking graduate and undergraduate students alike to
serve as members of its 2015 Planning Committee. These positions are unpaid and
will require approximately 10 hours of work per week running from April 2015 until
January 2016. Students from all universities are welcome to apply.

Position openings are as follows:

Speakers Director
The Speakers Director will be responsible for leading the Planning Committees
efforts to select, invite and accommodate top quality speakers for the 2015 Ivy
Sports Symposium. This individual will first work in conjunction with the Content
Director to plan panel and workshop topics, and then collaborate with the Planning
Committee to identify and invite high-level speakers to fill these openings. Finally,
once the speakers are confirmed, the Speakers Director will be responsible for
maintaining speaker communications leading up to the event. This position
requires a high attention to detail, strong intrapersonal skills, and preferably a
communications background.

Content Director
The Content Director will shape the substance of the 2015 Ivy Sports Symposium.
In association with the Speakers Director and Attendee Experience Director, the
Content Director will focus primarily on designing the panel and workshop
discussion topics. He/she should have a solid understanding of relevant current
issues in all areas of the sports industry, as well as critical thinking skills in order to
build the 2015 Ivy Sports Symposiums content around these issues. The Content
Director will also coordinate communications between the moderators and
panelists. This position requires in-depth knowledge of current issues, a creative
mindset, and strong writing skills.

PR and Communications Director


The PR and Communications Director will be responsible for handling media
relations for the 2015 Ivy Sports Symposium and strengthening the events brand.
He/she will work closely with the Social Media Director and Strategic Marketing
Director to draft and distribute press releases, establish new media contacts for the
Symposium, and coordinate with the Co-Chairs and Executive Director to ensure
brand consistency. Moreover, the PR and Communications Director will manage
requests for press credentials and coordinate media relations at the 2015 Ivy Sports

Symposium. This position requires strong writing skills and preferably a media
background.

Logistics Director
The Logistics Director will manage the event logistics for the 2015 Ivy Sports
Symposium. He/she will serve as the Planning Committees boots on the ground
during the planning process to ensure the Symposiums facilities needs are met,
communicate with vendors, organize volunteers, and complete various logistical
tasks as they arise. The Logistics Director will be responsible for coordinating the
Audio/Visual equipment needs in each room and determine event signage
placement. This position requires that the Logistics Director be a student at the
Symposiums host school, have a high attention to detail, and preferably possess an
event planning background. *We are looking to host the 2015 even in New York
City, venue TBD.

Attendee Experience Director


The Attendee Experience Director will be responsible for optimizing the day-of
experience at the 2015 Ivy Sports Symposium. He/she will ensure that both
students and professionals leave the Symposium feeling satisfied with their
takeaways by consulting on the relevance of content and meaningfulness of
networking interactions. Additionally, the Attendee Experience Director will operate
the Symposiums Eventbrite platform and design networking and Symposium 101
workshops in advance of the Symposium. This position requires strong
intrapersonal skills, a creative mindset, and preferably a background in hospitality.

Strategic Marketing Director


The Strategic Marketing Director will be responsible for handling strategic marketing
initiatives and special projects for the 2015 Ivy Sports Symposium. The Strategic
Marketing Director will work with the PR and Communications Director and Social
Media Director to strengthen the Symposiums brand through various marketing
projects for the event. Additionally, the Strategic Marketing Director will implement
a Shark Tank sports entrepreneurship competition to increase attendee
participation on event day and create a Student Playbook resource booklet. This
position requires the ability to think creatively and a passion for the sports industry.

Social Media Director


The Social Media Director will lead the efforts in creating, developing, and executing
a social media marketing plan to increase interest in the 2015 Ivy Sports
Symposium and attendee engagement. They will work in conjunction with the
Strategic Marketing Director and the PR and Communications Director to integrate
social media outlets with one another, as well as with web and event day content.
Further, he/she will be responsible for tracking the success of social media
strategies and making the appropriate adjustments. The position requires
knowledge of the sports industry, past experience with social media, and strong
attention to detail.

Ticket Sales Director


The Ticket Sales Director will work closely with the Attendee Experience Director, as
well as the Marketing and Public Relations Director, to ensure that the 2015 Ivy
Sports Symposium is promoted extensively to build awareness and excitement

around attending. Convening an intimate group of top students, young


professionals and professionals will be key. Primary roles may include building
relationships with student groups and companies in order to encourage ticket sales.
This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills, a preferred
background in research and sales, as well as confidence with cold calling.

Corporate Sponsorship Director


The Corporate Sponsorship Director will work closely with the 2015 Fellow and
Executive Director, as well as various members of the Planning Committee, to build
a database of potential sponsors. Research and outreach will be priorities leading
up to the 2015 Ivy Sports Symposium, and then communication and activation will
be key surrounding event day. An understanding in markets, sports leagues and
teams, recruiters and relevant groups is central to the role. Attention to detail,
already existing personal and professional networks in New York, and experience
with sponsorship evaluation, outreach and activation are preferred.
